Penny Dreadful – Finalis

Sorry – one last post on this program. My wife was out of town for the weekend, so I poured most of my Saturday and part of my Sunday into watching the remaining 15 episodes, making it to the exceptionally bittersweet end.

I just have to say one more time how much I loved this program – the overarching story, the characters, the gothic atmosphere, the cinematography, the dialogue – I couldn’t get enough, and I really didn’t want it to end. I have to credit my wife, who was willing to sit there and listen to me talk about just how much I enjoyed a program in which she had no interest and would never, ever think of watching – I so appreciate you.

Don’t start this program looking for sympathetic heroes – it’s populated only by 1) broken humans delivering heroic outcomes while either searching for redemption or struggling with their internal demons or 2) monsters that either project a thoroughly deceptive outward humanity or are fighting to overcome their baser instincts and achieve peace / acceptance.

I thought they ended the whole thing almost perfectly and, while I was sad to finish that final episode, I hope they aren’t tempted to shoot a 4th season. Trying to push the story any further would only damage something I truly enjoyed.

Cheers
