I know Bruce was speaking for a whole lotta people when he wrote that song, but he wasn’t speaking for me. I’ve always tried to make every stage of my life the best days that I’ve ever had – and this one is no different. I’m in my 60s, retired, not as strong, not as fast, not as sharp and I’m still having the time of my life. These are my Glory Days and they’re what I’ll be writing about.
I started this blog several years ago as a place to review the books I was reading. Over time, more posts on movies, television shows and games crept in. Ultimately, most of my new posts wound up in the On My Mind category. As I’ve started writing again after an extended absence, that continues to be the case.
You’ll still find a lot of posts about books and reading – I’m no less passionate today about my books then I was back then – but you’ll also see a lot of stuff about the little Village we live in (a place I’ve truly fallen in love with over the years), the movies and shows I watch, the games I play and maybe a bit of politics and social commentary here and there.
I don’t know for sure – seeing as how I’m just jumping back in – but I think the point will eventually be to enjoy where you are and to find a bit of happiness in every day. That’s always been more than enough for me.
Cheers,
Brian
PS: I’m leaving this here because it’s a reflection of where I started and – who know – where I may wind up again over time. When I look at it these days, it just seems a little self-important. Glad we’re moving on.
(This is meant to be a place for all of you whose life has been characterized by a love of the written word. My posts will break out across several categories. The first, On The Nightstand, will speak to those books I’m currently reading and will provide my perspective on the experience – good, bad or ugly. The second, On The Shelf, will focus on those books or series that I’ve begun but put aside or that I plan to start as soon as I finish what’s On The Nightstand. I’ll also occasionally post using an In The Cart category on those occasions where I have a book for sale. My wife will tell you – I buy LOTS of books – more than we have room for – and I’ve occasionally either double purchased or purchased and ultimately decided that the book in question doesn’t meet my “collectible” threshold. I’m happy to offer these up to anyone who might be interested in filling an empty slot in their library. I’ll have an “On The Screen” tab to discuss movies I’ve seen. I may occasionally post on topics that have nothing to do with books and those will appear under the On My Mind category. Last but not least, I have a Category called “Scribbles” where I can post my own creative content.
I hope anyone who stumbles across this site finds something of value – maybe you try a title that you wouldn’t otherwise have tried, maybe you find something worth a chuckle, maybe you find something that angers you enough to engage me in a discussion, maybe you acquire a title that allows you to complete a series. From my perspective, any of those would be worthy outcomes and would more than justify the time I’ve put into the site.)
Brian, I am curious if you have ever read Haruki Murakami. While classified as fiction, it has a sci-fi bent to it including alternate realities and time travel. Very fascinating examples of contemporary Japanese thoughts through the eighties.
Hey Matt – great to meet you two yesterday and thanks for checking out the site. I know of Murakami but I’ve never read any of his work. Let me know which of his books you enjoyed the most and I’ll slot it into the pile. Hope you both have a great Easter and look forward to staying in touch. Cheers
